Blood and Atonement
We have already explained that blood is what God has used to atone for man's sin since the fall. Giving life for life.1 In this third article we will explain this further. There are three points we will cover. Why blood had to be shed and why God had to become flesh. What the Bible means by the Son of God. What God coming in the flesh provided for mankind.
Animals were sacrificed under the law and their blood was sprinkled on the altar to atone for the sins of mankind. Just like a blanket covers something. It hid their sin. But it was still there.2 Animals would continue to be sacrificed. God wanted to atone for sin and provide a way to remove the consequences of it once for all.3
Once that sacrifice was made it opened up the ability for man to fellowship with God again. By allowing him to be forgiven of his sins. We must know what that meant and what it did not. Christ died for us and was raised from the dead. He gave us the choice of what we want our destiny to be. It did not force it upon us. We are not one with the body of Christ through his death on the cross. Nor do we become one by speaking it or doing good works. We become one with the body of Christ when we develop an intimate relationship with God. Spiritually to spiritually. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit.4 Jehovah gave his life in the flesh to atone for our sins so we could have eternal life by being born again. Once we have repented, been baptized and are born again our sins are not remembered.5
Why God Had to Come in the Flesh
There is something that needs to be addressed here. The Bible says that God is a spirit.6 There is no blood in a spirit. Blood is what gives life to the flesh. How can God shed his blood?7 Well the Bible tells us that God came through a woman and was made flesh.
This verse shows us that God came in the flesh to save man from hell. Peter tells us that this was prophesied about.
The body that God chose to become human was chosen before the world was even made. Before sin entered into the world. It wasn't created until it was formed in the womb.8 I will elaborate on this later because it is important to understand. The Bible says that the Son of God was what was born out of Mary. Not a spirit.
What we can understand from this verse is that the holy thing born of Mary is called the Son of God. The Son of God was born. Jesus was the name given to that child.9 He is God's name in the flesh. We will also retain our names when we enter into the next life until God changes our names.10 Hebrews 1 tells us that he received a name by inheritance.
If you believe that the Trinity is correct there is one more question we have with this verse. The Holy Ghost is going to come upon her and the power of the Highest will overshadow her. Who is the Highest? First or Third? If it's the third it would be the first. Since we know that they are one we don't have to question this.
What the Bible Means by the Son of God
I will explain what we believe and give you verses that back it up. The father and son is what the Spirit and the flesh are. There is no Son of God that is a spirit. Ever or currently.
Son. It is a term that describes a relationship and who you came from. You would never call one of many that are equal each other son. Person or substance. Let's see what the Bible says about the word son. The Bible calls angels sons of God.11 They were not born of anything else they came from God.12 That is why they are called sons. In reference to they came from God. Not by being born. Angels don't reproduce. We are never shown that they do. Only begotten13 is what we call the Son of God. Because he was born of another being. Mary. He was not a spirit when he was born he was human. Something has to be begotten to have a body.
We bring in the firstbegotten into the world. That child that was born of Mary deserves to be worshipped as God. Because God was in that body. We also believe the reverse to be true as well. The body that was born of Mary is not God. When Jesus died on the cross his body ceased to function. It didn't walk or talk. Eat or sleep. Work miracles. That isn't God. That is how God became human.
God became like us. He took on the form of a man and lived on earth. Still being God.
All that God is dwells in the Son of God. Once again the Bible states that the Son of God is flesh. Paul tells us more in Colossians chapter 1.
The Son of God is the image of the invisible God.14 And created all things. If we believe that the Son of God was a spirit that came to us and we say he created everything. What did the Father create? There is nothing left for him to do. We believe that God created everything and came to us in the flesh.
What God Coming to Earth in the Flesh Provided
He provided salvation for mankind.
Here are some things that came from sin.
- Man's fellowship with God was cut off.
- Man has a sin nature.
- Man starts to decay physically.
- When we die we are cut off from God.
The last three we will no longer experience when we die or the rapture happens.
There are more effects that sin has on us today.
- We don't want to do what's right.
- We spread sin when we practice it.
- We try to separate ourselves from God's ways.
- We try to avoid correction.
These are things that we battle every day as believers.
Conclusion
We can say that there is only one God. His name is Jesus. He came to earth to die for our sins. Died, was buried and rose from the dead. So that we could come to him. By repenting of our sins and being baptized in his name and receiving the Holy Spirit. Being born again and speaking in tongues.
There is no Trinity. There is one God and he came to earth to save us.
