THE JOHN 3:5 PROJECT
"...the heaven of heavens, with all their host"
"You stated that the Son of God did not exist “prior” to his incarnation. If that is true, then why does the bible say that the Son created the worlds?"
Colossians 1:15-16 "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, for all things in heaven and on earth were created by him—all things, whether visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers--all things were created through him and for him.

Ms Tee, there two biblical points to consider before concluding the "son" of God created the universe; they are:
The bible classifies the son of God as a "human" only; we read in:
Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and "her seed" [human]; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
We also read in
Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also "that holy thing" ["thing" - the child (human)] "which shall be born of thee [born of the woman (human)]"" shall be called" "the Son of God."
and finally we read in:
Romans 1:1-4 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made "of" the seed of David "according to the flesh"; And "declared" to be "the Son of God "with power", "according to the spirit" of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
The son of God is not an eternal being; he was born of a woman (Genesis 3:15), and had a "human" lineage. He was not a "being" before his conception. It certainly isn’t possible for someone born roughly four-thousand years after creation to have been the creator. The son of God was not the creator, but a creation of the creator. Since the bible’s illustrates that the son of is a member of the human race, what would he have been "before" his conception; a god with God, but the same God?
The bible does not suggest, at all, that the universe was created by way of surrogate; i.e. the son. As previously stated, the son of God was a member of the human race; with a beginning; one long after the creation of the earth. The bible tells us in
Nehemiah 9:6 "You "alone"are the Lord. "You" made the heavens, "even the highest heavens", "and all their starry host", the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. "You" give life to "everything", and the multitudes of heaven worship "you." "
So how do we reconcile the verses you quoted and the bible’s declaration of a single creator? Let’s review “what” the scriptures says and the meanings within:
Colossians 1:15-16:
This verse makes three declarations, two about the son of God (relating to the human aspect of "God" incarnate as a member of humanity) and 1 about God (as the all-knowing, all powerful spirit and father of all creation), but the SAME being. That is, one invisible being with a visual component having the human experience.
Breaking the verse down:
Son of God – Human (flesh)
He is the "image" of the "invisible God"…the first born over all creation.” In this first statement, the bible tells us that the son of God is the "image" "of" (preposition – possession) the invisible God. "Image", from the Greek word eikōn meaning an image, figure, likeness, in this case the "visible" equivalent of who we cannot see. Much like the shape and movements of the wind are revealed through the physical aspects of a tornado (water, dirt and debris}; it is through what man could "see" (via the son) that God’s nature and characteristics (power, intellect, insight) are realized (also see Romans 1:19-20 for more of God’s proofs). This same word (eikōn) is used in Matthew 22:20 when Jesus is asked about paying taxes and Jesus responds ", And Jesus said to them [referring to a coin], 'Whose likeness and inscription is this? " The coin bore the likeness of Caesar, once again the word is used in Revelation 14:9-10 which states "And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God…" invisible God"…the first born over all creation."
Just as the image of Caesar on the coin was not Caesar, and the "image" of the Beast is not "the beast", the "image" of God is not "God", apart from the spirit. The coin and the image of the beast represented the "living" being that was behind the image, the image was only a representative. We know that the image of God was not God (apart from the living spirit) because when the spirit of God abandoned the "image" (the son, the physical body) on the cross, the "image" ceased to function in any capacity. The same applies to all humans, when our spirits depart (at death) our visible representations (the body) ceases to function. The "image" of God laid in the tomb until the spirit (God) returned to the body (John 10:18).
Jesus states
John 10:18 "No man taketh it from me (his life), but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father."
The "image" of God was not a living being, apart from the spirit and therefore could not "restore" life to itself" considering that the bible states that the life of the flesh is in the blood(Leviticus 17:11); with no blood to sustain the flesh, the spirit departed from the body. The spirt of God was the "life" of the "image" (1 Timothy 3:16, Colossians 2:9). The human aspect of God in flesh, submitted to releasing the spirit through death - Matthew 26:36-46, and the spirit "restored" life to the body (took life again)
Death, in the bible, is defined as a separation (James 2:26),"life" only pertains to the flesh by way of the spirit. The bible states that the life of the flesh is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11), when the blood can no long sustain the flesh, through loss or illness, the spirit will vacate, but the spirit is still sentient.
1 Colossians isn’t crediting the "image" of God with creating the universe, it is crediting the animating force of the human body; not the human aspect of God. we know this because the bible states that the son of God came down through forty-two "generations"; the son of God had a "genealogy"; a spirit does not, so the son of God could not have created the heaven having been a "part" of creation itself (through man).
We read in:
Romans 1:3-4 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was "made" [created – John 5:26] of the seed of David "according to the flesh"; And declared to be the Son of God with power, "according to the spirit" of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
The son of God said I and my Father are one (John 10:30), that is, they are one in body and spirit; just a "we" have an animate part and physical body, and just as the spirit of God vacated and three days later was reunited with his body, we to will, "eventually" vacate this body and be united with our bodies either to life or eternal separation (Daniel 12:2).
The term "firstborn"has two connotations, one literal and the other authoritative, but BOTH apply to human customs. The son of God (the child conceived in Mary) was "literally" conceived by God (who "is" the Holy Spirit – Matthew 1:18) title "firstborn" is a reference the customs of "mankind", in this case Jewish culture, which relegates to the son of God’s status of heir of all thas is God’s; obviously because he is the first and only "son" of God (Mathew 1:18).
...for all things in heaven and on earth were created by him—all things, whether visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers--all things were created through him and for him. The bible states that the "son" of God is the result of God (the Holy Spirit) and a "human" woman. The son of God is not an always existing being, but a human.
That is, a "human" vessel in which the almighty, all-knowing creator inhabited. We can not credit a human vessel with the creating thing that existed "before" he did. How could a "human" have created a universe zillions and zillions of miles across in any direction and stellar object million and billions of times the size of the average man, let alone the living being of heaven.
However, the spirt that animated that flesh was "always" existent, and as we saw in Nehimiah 9:6, and this verse is responsible for it all. We read in
John 8:56-59 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see "my" day and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, "Before Abraham was, I am." Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
The Jews clearly understood that the "man" standing before them could not see someone who was long before his time, because he didn’t exist; that is because " he didn't'. However, the "supernatural" being that was in that flesh, that exists outside time and the limitations of humanity can make such a claim. The spirit with in "was" before Abraham, before Adam, and before ALL creation. To conclude, the bible ONLY identifies the "son" of God as flesh; human, with a beginning, so, this verse does not suggest the son of God created the universe; his is a creation like every other creation of God.
